Chopta Tungnath - Highest Shiva Temple Trek

Tungnath is one of the five Panch Kedar shrines and is widely known as the world's highest Shiva temple (~3,680 m / ~12,073 ft). The trail starts from Chopta meadows in Rudraprayag district.

A well-marked stone path climbs ~3.5 km to Tungnath. From there, a steeper ~1.5 km push reaches Chandrashila (~4,000 m / ~13,100 ft) for 360° Garhwal views. Round trip from Chopta is about 10–12 km.

Chopta Tungnath Itinerary - 3 Days 2 Nights

Standard Chopta base route with Tungnath darshan and Chandrashila summit (weather permitting). Pickup from Dehradun / Rishikesh.

Day 01

Dehradun / Rishikesh → Chopta

Drive ~7–9 hrs Via Ukhimath Meals: D

Morning pickup. Scenic drive toward Rudraprayag / Ukhimath belt and reach Chopta (~2,680 m). Evening acclimatisation walk if time permits.

Early start for temple and summit day. Climb the stone path to Tungnath, take darshan, then continue to Chandrashila if weather and group pace allow. Descend to Chopta by afternoon / evening.
